School will soon be back in session and before starting the daily routine of packing lunches and shuttling the kids around, why not plan one more action-packed Myrtle Beach family vacation! There’s still plenty of time to enjoy outdoor activities and soak up those last days of summer before the kids are stuck behind a desk for another year. Before making that list of school supplies, here is a list of the top 10 things to check off on your vacation in Myrtle Beach:
Ride a Roller Coaster
Head over to the Family Kingdom, a seaside amusement park with over 35 attractions for an afternoon of thrills and excitement. Go for a spin on the Swamp Fox wooden roller coaster – a wild ride whose views of the ocean are as breathtaking as the fast drops and tight turns of the track. Get the best seat and try sitting front row!
Catch Some Air
Located in the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex, Shark Wake Park is a cable-system designed for wakeboarding. The system is easy to learn on and is perfect for all levels of wakeboarding experience. You’ll have a blast gliding across the water and if you’re looking to get some major airtime – bust a move on one of various ramps scattered throughout the park!
Go for a Hike
While Myrtle Beach is known for its thrilling amusement parks – it also offers other types of parks that are teeming with adventure. Huntington Beach State Park is full of places to encounter nature and the coastal wildlife. Take a hike on the Sandpiper Pond Trail and explore a 2-mile trail on a boardwalk that winds through a coastal forest of oaks and red cedars. Follow the path to a saltwater pond where you’ll have the opportunity to observe birds such as herons and ospreys.
Watch a Movie Under the Stars
Every Friday night during the summer, The Market Common holds an event known as “Movies Under the Stars!” where they feature a complimentary family-friendly movie. Popcorn and light refreshments are sold, so all you have to bring is a lawn chair or blanket to stretch out on. Nothing like enjoying a movie on the big screen under the summer night sky!
Reel in a Fish
There are a few places to reel in some fun along the Grand Strand. Two of these places known for their fishing are 2nd Avenue Pier and 14th Avenue Pier. Both take you out over the Atlantic Ocean and boast great views of the Myrtle Beach coastline. Cast a line, breathe in the fresh salt air and relax while you try your luck at catching a keeper!
Become a Mermaid
Wild Water & Wheels is full of over 33 water rides, lazy river, wave pool and everything you need for a day of splashing around! While you’re visiting, try out the mermaid experience where mermaids give you a makeover and dress you up in your own mermaid tail and top – complete with a sparkling crown! Once you’re dressed and ready, you can pose for pictures with sea treasures, a conch shell and a crab. And you can even even learn to swim like a mermaid in your new fins!
Putt a Hole-In-One
With over 50 miniature golf courses in Myrtle Beach, you have the opportunity to escape to the deep jungle, go back in time with the dinosaurs or walk the plank on Captain Hook’s pirate ship. Grab a putter and your favorite color ball and challenge the family to 18 holes of putting greens filled with obstacles and non-stop fun.
Surf a Wave
There are various companies along the Grand Strand that offer surfing lessons. Spend a morning learning the basics of the art of surfing including paddling, standing up, and balancing. You’ll be pushed into waves by skilled teachers and once you catch that first wave – you may find yourself hooked and want to rent a board for the whole day!
Ready, set, go! Jump in a go-kart and race the family at Broadway Grand Prix. Also be sure to check out The Track Myrtle Beach and zip around Woody – the signature track that includes three-levels of racing fun!
Hold a Snake
Alligator Adventure in North Myrtle Beach is known as the “Reptile Capital of the World”! Not only do many species of reptiles including alligators, crocodiles, snakes, and turtles call it home, but you can also view monkeys, birds, and other animals when you visit. Make sure to see Utan “King of the Crocs” – the largest crocodile on exhibit in the US, catch an alligator feeding or watch a snake handling show!
Not only are there plenty of places for all day entertainment along the Grand Strand – but what better place to finish up that summer reading list than by an oceanfront pool or under an umbrella on the beach while visiting Brittain Resorts & Hotels. Be sure to check all these exciting activities off your list before heading back to school!
