December Events

From wonderlands of lights and dining with Santa, to New Year’s festivities and firework displays, there are plenty of opportunities to get in the holiday spirit during your vacation to Myrtle Beach in the month of December.

December 1-3, 8-10 & 15-18: Nights of a Thousand Candles
Location: Brookgreen Gardens
For the month of December, the gardens at Brookgreen are transformed into a magical winter wonderland of lights. There will be various musical performances and carolers to entertain you throughout the evening. Be sure to grab a cup of hot cocoa or hot cider before you enjoy wandering the grounds illuminated by hand-lit candles and twinkling lights.

December 1-31: Festival of Trees
Location: Ripley’s Aquarium
There’s more than just sea life calling Ripley’s home this holiday season. Rows of decorated and themed Christmas trees decorate the aquarium, including trees representing each of the states. And be sure to test your knowledge of each of the state’s trees with a free scavenger hunt!

Dec 1-31: The Great Christmas Light Show
Location: North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex
Pack the family in the car and venture over to the wonderland of lights at the drive-through show featuring amazing light displays! After you finish winding through the rows of over two million lights, you can enjoy hot chocolate and s’mores while visiting Santa’s Village. Want to get a closer look at the lights? Hop aboard the Santa Express Train! And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can try the Go Ape tree top adventure of lights or go ice-skating.

December 3: A Very Broadway Christmas
Location: Broadway at the Beach
This is the official celebration of the holiday season at Broadway at the Beach. A day filled with festivities including a parade, musical performances, kid activities, and the 22nd annual lighting of the tree. And there will be a firework show – the perfect ending to a jam-packed day!

December 3: Christmas Parade
Location: North Myrtle Beach
Floats will be going by decorated in twinkling lights and candy will be tossed about during this lively Christmas parade down Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Santa will of course be at the end of the line, officially kicking off the holiday season!

December 3 & 10: A Merry MarshWalk Christmas
Location: Murrells Inlet
If you need to find gifts for loved ones on your Christmas list, be sure to check out the local vendors and Myrtle Beach artists selling handcrafted items along the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk. Of course Santa will there and he’ll be taking pictures and collecting non-perishable food items for “Backpack Buddies.” Come enjoy this unique holiday shopping experience along the waterfront!

Dec 3, 10 & 17: Holiday Bazaar
Location: The Market Common
If you enjoyed the Farmers Market, you’ll love the festive holiday twist on this outdoor market. Vendors will be selling live greens, fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, handmade holiday crafts, and other items that are sure to make perfect gifts for loved ones.

Dec 3 & 10: Sundaes with Santa
Location: Barefoot Landing
Kids can enjoy a make your own sundae bar and craft making station with Santa at this seasonal event. And who says Santa only enjoys cookies during the holidays?

December 10 & 17: Breakfast with Santa
Location: The Market Common
Your kids can start their day by sharing a meal with Santa! This unique dining experience allows them to enjoy conversations about the North Pole or share their Christmas wish lists with him. They’ll have two opportunities to eat breakfast with Santa – either at Tupelo Honey on December 10th or at Gordon Biersch on December 17th.

Location: Barefoot Landing
Watch the classic holiday movie “The Polar Express” with Santa himself! And what’s a movie without popcorn? All moviegoers receive a complimentary bag of popcorn from Colette’s Popcorn.

December 17: 2nd Annual MarshWalk Santa Crawl
Location: Murrells Inlet
You may find yourself surrounded by a bunch of Santa’s, Elves and Reindeer if you’re in Murrells Inlet during this seasonal event. Each of the restaurants along the MarshWalk will feature holiday drink and dinner specials, as well as live music. So grab your friends and dress up in your favorite Christmas-themed attire and celebrate the holidays in the Inlet!

December 24: Lighting of the Menorah
Location: The Market Common
Join Rabbi Weissman around sunset in Valor Park for a lighting of the Menorah to celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah.

December 31: New Year’s Eve on The MarshWalk
Location: Murrells Inlet
Ring in the New Year on the water with live music, holiday drink and dinner specials, and a majestic fireworks display at midnight!

December 31: New Year’s Eve “Garden by Candlelight” Pre-Party
Location: Brookgreen Gardens
Start your New Year’s evening peacefully at Brookgreen in the sculpture garden that will be illuminated with thousands of hand-lit candles and holiday lights. Holiday music fills the air as you reminisce about memories from the past year and make resolutions for the upcoming year!

December 31: New Year’s Eve Fireworks Extravaganza
Location: Broadway at the Beach
Gather around with family and friends as Broadway at the Beach counts down the beginning of a new year with a grand show of fireworks lighting up the sky!

Location: The Market Common
Two stages of live music, a live stream of Times Square in New York City on the jumbo screen, inflatables and games for the kids – and a mirror ball drop at midnight! There will even be a beer garden to grab a drink and make a toast. This huge New Year’s event is a celebration the whole family will enjoy!

December 31: New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Location: Barefoot Landing
Bundle up and prepare to say farewell to 2016 at Barefoot Landing. Celebrate and ring in the New Year with a huge fireworks display over the water!
