During the month of March, food demand for local school children is high because they are at home for Spring break, leaving many without the hot meal they receive each day at school. To respond to this need, Brittain Resorts has teamed up with Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach for an Annual Food Drive that takes place from March 13th until March 27th.
Helping Hand provides essential services to those in need in our community. Bus tickets and gas cards for transportation, utility assistance to prevent water and electric shutoffs, rental assistance to prevent evictions, prescription medications for those with health issues, financial assistance like car repairs and other vital things are provided by the organization on a daily basis.
Last year, Brittain Resorts collected 3,454 pounds of food. The resorts and groups that participated include: Breakers, The Strand, Paradise, Bay View, Compass Cove, Caribbean, Ocean Reef, Long Bay, North Beach, Sea Captain’s House, Sales Campus, Marketing, IT, Starbucks and Corporate.
This year, we nearly doubled that by collecting 5,433.85 pound of food! Compass Cove Resort collected 2,025.05 pounds while The Breakers and The Strand followed up with a total of 1,849.12 pounds.
Want to help out too? Anyone can donate to Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach. So you can do good and make a difference even while you’re on vacation! You can donate in person or online. Helping Hand is located off of Mr. Joe White Avenue, around the corner from Grissom Parkway, at 1411 10th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach.
Helping Hand keeps an “emergency food pantry” that is meant to provide about three day’s worth of food, and they can always use help. Some of the requested food donations include: cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, beans, potatoes, coffee, teas, juices, milk, baby food and more. Needed toiletries include conditioner, shampoo, deodorant, disposable razors, toothbrushes and paste, shaving cream and soap. These can be in travel and regular sizes. This food pantry supplied 18,494 families during 2015.
Brittain Resorts is proud to be working with Helping Hand and looks forward to donating even more food next year!
