Director of Sales

Responsibilities of the Director of Sales include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate and select prospective accounts to increase business and revenue for the property, actively selling the property through outside sales calls, site tours, and telemarketing to meet or exceed property budgeted RevPAR
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with all new and prospective customers and monitor all sales related activities. Connecting with local business commerce groups such as Chamber of Commerce, CVB, etc. to enhance relationships with market area demand generators including leisure, sports, off-season tour groups, etc…
  • Solicit sales for the property through planned, personal calls and telephone solicitations to local trade and professional associations/corporations, travel agents, as well as other local and state organizations that could result in potential business for the hotel.
  • Establish a thorough knowledge of the market’s competitive set of properties in terms of pricing, rate structures and market position and how to remain competitive with these properties
  • Actively track and document all group or business leads to ensure sales goals are met as set by General Manager or Senior Director of Operations
  • Prepare monthly expense report for all expenses involving sales duties as applicable. Submit to the General Manager for approval and reimbursement
  • Responsible for qualifying and responding to all third party requests or RFP through MarRFP, OneSource, MILeads, Cvent, CVB bids, Hotel Planner etc, as needed
  • Maintain a full understanding of the hotel’s market position, property details, amenities, and hotel operations and the major factors that determine the focus of the sales effort, including familiarity with F&B outlets/options, Brand Loyalty Program, etc…


  • Familiarity with hotel brand initiatives, brand standards and Marriott suite of business applications.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal and customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers, collect and analyze accurate information and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to travel as nature of the business may require; both locally and out of market.
  • Possesses strong persuasive and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates strong familiarity with budget software and financial management
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations
  • Activator/self-motivated to accomplish goals, with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Demonstrates ability to think creatively and analytically.
  • Possesses strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of the hospitality industry
  • Ability to create and maintain a large client network.
  • Proficiency with general office PC applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases including Property Management System)
  • Proven job reliability, diligence, dedication, and attention to detail
  • Hospitality experience required with 2+ years preferred
  • Sales Management experience required with 1+ years preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
