Are you a fan of wine? If so, you are in for a treat. Duplin Winery, located at Barefoot Landing, has become one of the most popular attractions in the Grand Strand. The winery has been producing wine for over 40 years in Rose Hill, North Carolina and recently opened their Myrtle Beach location in the spring of 2015. Now you can enjoy an afternoon at Duplin Winery, located adjacent to Alligator Adventure.
Duplin Winery is a family owned business and is currently the largest winery in the South. Each year the Rose Hill location entertains over 90,000 visitors with their wine tastings and great events. The vineyard is operated and run by the Fussell family, all of which are extremely passionate about their Muscadine grapes and wine. Today the winery in North Carolina has the tank capacity of over 1.4 million gallons.
“Cool, Sweet, and Easy,” is the motto at Duplin Winery and after spending time at the winery, you’ll understand just why. The staff is warm and welcoming always making you feel like family. When you walk through the doors, you’ll be greeted with the finest southern hospitality. The 15,000 square foot building is made up of a retail store, tasting rooms and a bottling process. We recommend starting your day out with a delicious wine tasting. Sit back and relax as the staff tells you the stories of Duplin Winery and how each Muscadine wine ended up with their name. There are over 40 Muscadine wines with fun and unique names like Positively Pink, Queen Anne’s Revenge, Sweet Sox, Bald Head Red and Midnight Magnolia. The winery also has delicious sweetzers available that are perfect for those hot summer days. Some of the flavors include electric lemonade, Pina Colada, Pink Cosmo and Berry Bliss.
After you have finished your tasting, head on over to the bottling area and watch the magic happen. The bottling process is done the old-school way and is truly something to see. As you are watching the bottling, you can sample some delicious homemade fudge. There are many flavors to choose from, including chocolate, cookies and crème, and peanut butter. You can take home the delicious fudge, and typically the winery does buy one pound, get one free. It’s a treat you don’t want to skip.
As the afternoon comes to an end, head on into the gift shop and purchase some of the delicious Muscadine wines. There are plenty of great finds in the shop aside from wine. You can go home with gifts like wine racks, wine openers, and wine towels. There is also Muscadine jam, BBQ sauce and more. You’ll definitely want to make a purchase from the retail store, so you can remember your afternoon spent at Duplin Winery. Especially because after your tasting you get to keep your glass, so all you need is the wine to make it complete!
During the spring and summer months, you can sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine or two under the live oaks. There is live music and entertainment making it the perfect place to relax. Duplin Winery is open Monday through Thursday from 11am-5pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am-7pm and closed on Sundays.
