Escape to Myrtle Beach for a Winter Vacation

Ready to trade snow for sand? Myrtle Beach is the perfect place to get away during the winter. The crowds thin out, the temperatures remain mild, and there are plenty of things to do. If you’re planning a visit, add these activities to your itinerary:

Extend the Holiday Fun

There are a few places where you can keep the holiday magic alive when you’re visiting Myrtle Beach during the winter including:

Brookgreen Gardens: Nights of a Thousand Candles

Brookgreen Gardens shine bright during the holidays with endless twinkling lights and hand-lit candles during Nights of a Thousand Candles. On Jan 1st and 2nd, you can still walk around the seasonal lights in the sculpture gardens with hot cocoa or a glass of wine, enjoying the sounds of carolers and holiday music.

The Christmas Special: The Carolina Opry

For over 36 years, the Christmas Special has been Voted #1 among holiday shows in the south. The theater is a winter wonderland, decorated with mounds of snow, twinkling Christmas trees, and holiday wreaths. The award-winning talent at the Carolina Opry is unmatched and creates a purely entertaining show filled with holiday music and festive dancing.

Go on an Adventure

Discover plenty of adventure when you check out:

Alligator Adventure

Head to Alligator Adventure and explore the different habitats of flamingos, bobcats, turtles, crocodiles, alligators, various species of birds, and more. There are live shows where you can learn all about snakes and another one where you learn about alligators. And at the end of the alligator show, you even have the chance to hold one! One of the perks of visiting Alligator Adventure is that if you can’t fit it all in on the first day, you’re able to go to the park on the 2nd day for free.

Rent Bikes

Mild winter temps invite you to get outside and soak up the sunshine and salt air. Rent some bikes and venture along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and take in the sights of the sparkling Atlantic Ocean and the towering Myrtle Beach SkyWheel while you pedal along. If you want to visit the coastal habitat along the marsh, you can take the bikes to Myrtle Beach State Park or Huntington Beach State Park.

Sip and Savor

There are a variety of spots to indulge in delicious cuisine or a local draft beer. If you’re a foodie you’ll want to:

Visit a winery or brewery

A few breweries have recently opened their doors and are calling Myrtle Beach home. While you’re in town, you can check out New South Brewing, The Crooked Hammock Brewery, Tidal Creek Brewhouse, and Grand Strand Brewing Company. If sipping a glass of wine is more your style, make sure to visit La Belle Amie Vineyard and Duplin Winery.

South Carolina Restaurant Week

If you’re in town during the week of January 13th-23rd, you’re in luck because it’s South Carolina Restaurant Week. Stop by the local restaurants along the Grand Strand for special discounts and pre-fixe menus.
