The seasons are changing, and as we transition into fall here in Myrtle Beach, we want you to know the fun doesn’t stop just because summer is over. There are still plenty of festivals and activities to keep you busy!
Here are some exciting happenings to add to your calendar if you are visiting the Grand Strand in the month of October:
October 1-2: St. John’s Greek Festival
Location: St. John’s Baptist Greek Orthodox Church
We can’t all afford to fly to Greece, but this annual festival, back for it’s 24th year, is sure to give you a taste of the Greek culture. There will be vendors selling various authentic Greek dishes such as gyros, spanikopita, dolmathes (aka stuffed grape leaves), and lots of scrumptious pastries. And it’s not all about the food! There will also be crafts sold, inflatables, live music and performances. This event is fun for the whole family! Go grab some baklava!
October 7, 14, 21, and 28: Flashlights, Fireworks Fridays
Location: Thompson Farms
The great thing about Myrtle Beach is not only do we have the ocean, but within a short drive you can visit beautiful acres of farmland. As it turns to dusk, be sure to grab a flashlight and head over to Thompson Farms on Friday nights in October so you can find your way through the largest corn maze in the state of South Carolina! And that’s not all! Thompson Farms will also feature a drive-in movie each of these nights, as well as a fire pit to roast s’mores. Can’t you already taste the warm apple cider while watching colors burst in the crisp night air!
October 7-8, 14-15, 21-22, and 28-29: Boardwalk Fright Nights
Location: Myrtle Beach Boardwalk
No the world isn’t ending, but if you’re walking around Ocean Boulevard, specifically the Boardwalk, on Friday and Saturday nights this month it might feel like the apocalypse. When the sun goes down, the Zombies come out and will be wandering the streets. Watch your back!
October 8: Little River ShrimpFest
Location: Little River
Not too far up the road is Little River where the 12th annual ShrimpFest will be held featuring seafood, stilt walkers, balloon artists, crafts for sell, and live musical performances. Get ready to get your fill of fresh seafood and cast your vote for the best shrimp and grits!
October 13-15: Cruisin’ the Beach Car Show
Location: Broadway at the Beach
If there’s one thing we know how to do around the grand strand, it’s how to cruise. Maybe that’s why Myrtle Beach is the perfect spot to host this annual car show, full of modern, classic, muscle, and vintage cars. Vendors will be set up selling auto parts, clothing, auto memorabilia, refreshments, and more. Get ready to rev your engines for a good time!
October 14-15: Oktoberfest
Location: The Market Common
What do you get when you combine pumpkins and all things German in the fall? The 9th annual Oktoberfest! Seasonal Oktoberfest beers will be flowing alongside vendors selling authentic German cuisine. This event is fun for the whole family – featuring live entertainment, various craft vendors and a pumpkin patch with pumpkin decorating.
October 15: Inaugural Seafood Festival
Location: Between 8th and 9th Avenues on Ocean Boulevard
Time: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
We’re kind-of attached to the ocean here at the beach and we sure do take advantage of all the fresh seafood the Atlantic has to offer. We are so proud in fact, that we decided to make a celebration out of it! Come check out the first ever seafood festival, an event full of all the delicacies from the sea. Of course we love the sound of the ocean, but there will also be live beach music as well as a beer and wine garden. Rumor is there will even be a cornhole tournament!
October 16: Lip Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-off (Moved to November 6)
Location: Murrells Inlet
The sun isn’t the only thing heating things up in the Inlet during the 17th annual Surfrider Grand Strand Chili Cook-off competition. Local area chefs compete for the ultimate title of Chilimaster, all concocting their interpretation of a classic American seasonal favorite. There will be lots of spicy and flavor-packed chilis to sample as well as craft beer from Myrtle Beach’s local brewery New South Brewing Company to ease the spice. Go cast your vote for a good cause!
October 29: Monster’s Ball Costume Contest in Celebrity Square
